About

Manfred Gröppel, Ph.D.

I have been privileged to work more than 25 years in the biotechnology field. I gained extensive experience in the areas of business development, financing and a strong scientific background in drug discovery, product development, manufacturing processes, chemistry, manufacturing and controls (CMC). My successful track record of licensing transactions in the healthcare industry, worldwide, totals more than 300 million USD.

I have been serving as Chief Operating Officer and, until April 2019, acting as Chief Financial Officer, leading functional responsibility for accounting, finance, risk management and legal. From April 2016 to December 2016, I served as Immunic’s interim Chief Executive Officer.

As one of the founders of Immunic, we successfully converted a start-up company into a Nasdaq listed company in about three years from the inception. We raised more than $ 200 million, closed a reverse takeover, in-licensed a novel treatment option from a Japanese company resulting in a valuation of more than half a billion USD in February 2021.

Previously, I was Head of Business Development at 4SC AG, where I managed worldwide business development activities since 2001 and served as project leader of the development team for IMU-838. Prior to joining 4SC, I held various positions at Tripos Inc., where I managed business development activities in Central and South Europe, Scandinavia and Israel. I also worked at the Research Center Siemens from 1994 to 1997.

I studied chemistry at the University Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany and received my doctorate in chemistry from the Institute of Organic Chemistry, University Erlangen-Nuremberg.

I have been guest speaker at several national and international conferences and have been awarded several patents.
